Trolltunga

A tongue of rock 700 metres above Ringedalsvatnet. Long approach, bigger skies, and a summit that feels borrowed from myth.

Trolltunga is the walk people plan a whole trip around, and it rewards those who respect it. The first kilometre climbs steeply out of Skjeggedal, then the trail rolls across the high plateau, past tarns and snowfields, until the famous ledge appears above Ringedalsvatnet.

How we walk it

Storveis guided trips start at 06:00 from the P3 car park to beat the crowds and the afternoon weather. We carry a group shelter, first aid and a satellite messenger, and we turn around at 13:00 whatever happens.

Arrive tired, leave quietly, and let the queue for the photo be the only thing you wait for.

What to bring

  • Stiff hiking boots and poles for the descent
  • Wool base layer, warm mid layer and a proper shell
  • 3 litres of water, lunch and something sweet for the plateau
  • Headlamp, even in July
